Early literacy, thoughtfully designed

Reading
Through Play

Thoughtfully designed learning experiences that help children build strong foundations in reading through meaningful, hands-on play.

The question

Why do some children know all 26 letters… yet still struggle to read?

Recognising letters is only the beginning. Reading requires children to connect sounds, patterns and meaning.

PreKit explores how purposeful play can help make those connections clearer, more tangible and more enjoyable.

How it works

From object to word, in four small steps.

  1. See it

See it. A real object makes the word meaningful.

  2. Build it

Build it. Children choose the letters and build the word themselves.

  3. Blend it

Blend it. Slide to blend sounds slowly into a word.

  4. Read it

Read it. Children experience the joy of reading.

Our story

It started with one question.

After more than 30 years of working with young children, we noticed the same challenge again and again. Many children could recognise letters and recall sounds, yet turning those individual pieces into fluent reading was a much bigger step.

That observation became the starting point for PreKit. We believe children learn best when learning is active, meaningful and engaging.

Reading should not feel like a race to memorise more. It should invite children to touch, move, explore, connect and understand.

What we believe

Four ideas that shape everything we make.

  • Learn by Doing

Children understand more deeply when they can touch, move and explore.

  • Play with Purpose

Play should be joyful, but every learning experience should have intention behind it.

  • Understanding Before Memorising

Recognising information is not the same as understanding it.

  • Confidence Grows Through Success

Small moments of understanding build confident learners.

What we're building

PreKit is still being built — and we're sharing the journey as we go.

  • Hands-on Literacy Tools

Physical learning experiences designed to make reading skills more tangible.

  • Printable Learning Resources
